pet insurance?
« on: September 02, 2011, 05:10:29 PM »
I am still new in owning my kitten (i only had him for about a month) so i am still adjusting and trying to figure out everything i need to do.

I am thinking about getting pet insurance. Does anyone have it? if so which company you use.

I am looking into one offered by Petco but i am hoping to find a company that would work international. If not i will wait until i move to the uk before getting insurance. because i don't see the point in getting it if i am only going to be in the us for a few more months.

Yes yes yes - do get pet insurance (when you're in the UK). I insure my own kitties with Pet Plan and they are brilliant!!

I have found myself to be a kitty lover also.  I originally wanted a dog but can only have a cat where I live.  I have am glad I did because I really love my cat.

I just recently shopped around for pet insurance for him and found Tesco to be pretty reasonable.  I'm sure they aren't international so they probably wouldn't be ideal for the OP, but for me it was ideal.

If you have chosen to buy pet insurance, can you share with me why you decided to do so? We've had our cats for 7+ years now, and we've never had pet insurance. Everything I've read about US pet ins. seems to say its a scam and a rip off. Is it any different in the UK?

I've got pet insurance for both my dog and my cat (only ever had horse insurance in the US). My UK insurance covers my pets for accident, illness, injury, and death, and doesn't have the silly exclusions I encountered in the US (we'll cover illness for the cat, but only if it's due to kidney damage at age 7-8, etc). So far I haven't had to use it, but I like knowing that it's available in case something does happen.
