« on: September 24, 2011, 04:45:19 AM »
???  okay this is one of my top worries lol... If anyone know or work in the beauty industry in the UK ( Manchester ) please help me.
I am African American so i know our hair products/texture etc is different that European hair... so does anyone know how well the stylists over their are familiar with the african american hair process....  or should i just be prepared to try to do my own hair when living in the Uk?

Well, I don't know about African-American, but there are plenty of salons that deal with black (Afro-Caribbean as they say here) hair in Manchester, but not the American niche ;)

Trust me, there's a lot of everything here. Even if Manchester doesn't have any (and it's a major city, it most certainly should) you can always ship products from London which I know for a fact has plenty :P I say be willing to do your hair for a short while until you find 'the shop' for you. The best thing about Afro Caribbean salons here is that they don't charge extra for drying your hair until some of the European salons I've been to :D

It's so expensive here to get your hair done. I know a girl who pays £300 per visit! That's like $500!! No way. I have been doing my own perms for a while and have saved some of my extensions and have been wearing my hair natural in between the gym sessions. maybe it's not as expensive in Manchester.... But London is crazy expensive.
There are two kinds of people.  People who say what they want, and people who DO what they want. Which one will you be?

Vegasgrl94, where does your friend get her hair done? I have a friend who has done  her hair in West London and paid something similar, but when she goes to South and South East, she pays only abut 70 or so.... I should ask her :P

Yeah, here in Sheffield, theres at least two here as I head into City Centre (and its only a 10 minute bus ride) so Id imagine more in Manchester/Greater Manchester.

Not really sure... She lives northeast. She's getting ripped off. Lol.
