Sorry for your wife's loss, BB.

You can try a solicitor's office. If you have one you've already used for other things, they probably wouldn't charge you.
Or look on www.thenotariessociety.org.uk I believe a notary in the UK has to be a solicitor.

Unfortunately, I don't have any advice, but I am so sorry to hear about your wife's father.

I'd ask what this form is for and why it must be notarized.

The US funeral home probably has no idea that notary services are "different" in the UK, and that they are expensive.

I can't think why they would need this unless your wife was her Father's executor or she was somehow involved in his funeral pre-arrangements.

i have now seen the form and its a authorization form thats been sent to her older sister and younger brother in the USA,from what they are saying its New York state law this must be signed and notarized,we told them on the phone today how much price wise a notary cost here in the UK ,they are happy now if we just get it certified.....but since then i have phoned her HSBC bank and they will notarize it for nothing.........thank you all for thinking of her at this time.

It may be an affidavit having to do with heirship.  I had to get one of those notarized when my mother died earlier this year.  Luckily, I live in the US and a coworker is a notary.

A soliciter will probably noterise, given the circumstances they may charge less.
Condolences....this is the call that we fear but know it will come at some point...DW's father being 89. Every year that we visit I know it's in the back of her mind that it could be the last time she sees him.
