TLC's Sorority Girls
« on: February 04, 2012, 10:49:46 PM »
I've just been informed about this new show on tlc which is a "reality" show where 5 american sorority girls start a sorority in the UK. Being in a sorority now and going to england school next year I'm really concerned by the image this show is going to create about myself and the women I have grown to love over these past few years. I've been a little confused over if this show has actually begun airing there or not? Has anyone else seen or heard of it?

Here's the shows page. http://tlc.discovery.com/videos/sorority-girls-videos/ [nofollow] Watch a few of the videos and I'm sure you'll see how ridiculous and unrealistic the show is. It makes it appear like all sorority are stuck up, rude snobs and I can honestly say that I've never once meant a girl who behaved in that manner. More concern is how the show centers around basically hazing the "plegdes" (which most sorority no longer say). Hazing is no longer a part of most sororities, I have never been hazed nor have I hazed anyone else.

I would just hate to go to the UK and feel that I'm alreadt being judged because of an ridiculous TV. I love my sorority and shouldn't have to hide the fact that I'm in one. Therefore I would be really thankful if you could take a few minutes to sign this petition to get the show off the air.

Thanks,
Katie

I dunno the show wasnt very good (it was aired on E4 in the autumn here)
The US girls didnt 'get' the British girls and the British girls didnt seem to get the US girls either.

Most of the girls didnt even attend Leeds Uni (quite a few were from the two unis here in Sheffield) so I dont even understand how they were going to establish a proper sorority.

They just dont have them here as everyone pretty much lives OFF campus even as freshers. I dont think the show had much of a following outside the first episode (they tried to get people to watch alongside using twitter, without much success), so most people wont have a real understanding of being in one. People are curious as they dont get it...

Also, like most 'reality' tv, theres very few real things about it...
I wouldnt stress.

I've never even heard of the programme (and I'm a reality TV junkie) so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
