Inexpensive American Passport Photos @ Costco!
« on: November 18, 2011, 09:33:52 AM »
Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but recently I visited our local (Croydon) Costco and asked the guy in the Photo Section if American-sized passport photos could be taken there. They can, and you can get two for £3.49.

Whoopee!

Thank you so much for posting this! We are registering at the American embassy/getting our newborn her first passport in January and queried at a local place in Liverpool (no snappy snaps here, unfortunately!) and they told me 20 pounds!!! This is great news! Another reason to love Costco.

I love that they'll give you two  I had a major vent at work last week when a local chain here in Central London charged me £17 for 4.  :o I don't need 4, I have never needed 4, I can't imagine why I would ever need 4 - so why do I have to pay for them!  Two seems sensible.  They won't end up with odd bits of photo paper left behind and we won't be charged an arm and a leg for extra pictures.

Wishing I had known this earlier.... Alas.

My daughter needs her American passport renewed. We live near Gatwick and you can't get two American passport photos cheaper than £20. And the studios that offer to take them make you book in advance, which is a hassle.

During our last trip to Costco, it occurred to me to ask about it. Just keep in mind for any future photos!

The cheaper way is to take the picture yourself against a white wall, throw it in photoshop, re-scale the photo to 2x2 inches, and then copy paste. 2 photos will safely  with on a 4x6 picture: 0.13 USD, and 6 will safely fit on a 5x7 picture: 0.39 USD. I've done it, it works.

Hi NewcastleorBust, welcome to UKY.  Please come over to the welcome wagon and introduce yourself.   :)

Not everyone has photoshop or knows how to use it.  I personally did it that way as I didn't have any other options but it's really pretty tedious if you like to get a good picture of yourself.  So  I think two for £3.49 is brilliant.

Definitely... I've applied for 4 US visas now and for the first 3 visas I was charged between £10 and £14 for 2 US passport photos!

Luckily, for the 4th application, I discovered that you can now upload your own photo instead of taking one to the interview... so I just scanned in a recent UK-sized passport photo and re-sized it according to their guidelines - it was fine for the visa and I didn't need to bother finding somewhere to get US-sized photos done :).

I have access to an image editing program, and the ability to make the photo myself. But I'd much rather get them done at Costco if I'm already going to be there.

And £3.49 is a bargain!
