Opinions about West Lothian living?
« on: August 19, 2011, 09:08:35 PM »
I am curious to opinions...good or bad...about areas within West Lothian.  Our family is relocating and have not been able to find much information on primary schools and what areas are nice to live.  I know that this subject casts a wide net over a broad area but would appreciate any thoughts.  Thanks ;)

I live in Bathgate and it's pretty nice. There are lots of things in the area for children and a great Sports Centre here. The train service goes to Edinburgh and Glasgow now, too. I'm not sure about the primary schools because my son is still in nursery but I've heard good things about them. It all depends on who you speak to, though. There's a good sense of community here and I like living in West Lothian. Sorry I can't be more help! lol

We're north of West Lothian.  But, I love Livingston and the great shopping there. I don't have kids in school, so can't really comment on that either.  But, I think West Lothian is lovely.  Easy access to the countryside and loads to do in the area.

Where are you moving from and what area will you or SO be working in?

One suggestion.. You could always use Google Maps street view and look at areas and get a pretty realistic picture of what it's like once you narrow down the area you're wanting to be in.

How horrible to start a post and not follow up.  We have been busy with packing and selling everything on top of the visa fun.  We are from the US-midwest and my SO will be working in Uphall...so we will be looking at Uphall/Broxburn or Livingston to live.  Great idea of Google Maps...very helpful!  We are looking forward to the move.  Any other great suggestions?

Have you tried looking on the website
http://www.upmystreet.com/
It can give you a general idea of what the particular area is like.. To visually see the area tho google street view would be a good idea.. Nothing like seeing it...
