Advice/stories on the week before the wedding?
« on: February 05, 2012, 05:48:00 AM »
Here I sit, contemplating the fact I'll be married in a week. Yeeehaw! I'm so excited to get moving on with life...and moving to the UK with hubby. But of course between now and then are some fun (and not so fun) bits to deal with: menu cards and programs and song decisions, fun family time, guests arriving, etc.

To help lighten the mood I thought I would see if anyone had any musings from their own wedding week. Any adventures, memories or humor that you would like to share would be appreciated!!!  ;D Sincere thanks from someone trying to keep it all in perspective.

I recently got married myself and am a professional wedding planner in the states. The best advice I can give- don't sweat the small stuff! I see way too many brides and grooms get way too concerned over the details of their weddings that they don't actually enjoy them. I had a bride once cry over how the napkins were folded and I had a groom complain about the color of the ocean (like I can do anything about that. I did ensure him that the photographer could make it any color he wanted lol).
Focus on the good times with your family & friends, that's what weddings should be about. Enjoy the day!!

We ended up more or less eloping - getting the license one afternoon and getting married the next morning. In a way I missed out on all the hype and planning, so I would say enjoy every minute of it. Don't stress, because on the off chance there is a small hiccup, no one will notice anyway since they will be focused on how radiant you'll be.

Best advice I have is to set aside a lot of free time the day or even just morning after the wedding for you and your then-husband. Sleep in, order room service, and just be alone together.

Thanks all! I have returned from wedding hiatus. Everything went wonderfully-including a couple surprise guests from the UK. Mr. Sunshine even popped out before the ceremony.

Now - onto the visa  :o

Oh, FLtoBelfast...you'll be pleased to know I didn't cry over napkin folds!
