Schools..private British vs international school
« on: January 16, 2012, 02:45:06 AM »
I am relocating to the uk (gatwick area) from Houston with one school aged child ( and an infant). I am curious whether you guys think there is some reason she shouldn't attend a local British private school. I attended an international school in Amsterdam and would love to send her to one as well except that it would mean at least a 45 min commute for me. She's 7 years old...do you think attending a private British school will be an issue if we move back to the us in 3 years?
Thanks!!

I think 10 or 11 would be ok.  There will be things she doesn't know that other students do, but that would be true if you were moving within the US.

I think the general opinion is that once you move into high school levels things change because here you focus and in the US it is more broad.

10 or 11--in three years when you return your now 7 year old daughter will be 10 or 11. At least, that's what I read.

Yes, 10 or 11 the age at which you would be returning to the US.  So before high school.

Have you considered the Cobham International School which I believe has an American program?  If this is the school that you were referring to when you said it would mean a 45 minute commute, they do offer a bus service.

Gotcha on the 10/11 ...yes, she would be about10 or so when we return. Yes, was referring to Cobham. When I contacted the school, they suggested I would want to live close to the school even though there are bussing options from farther away. Their reasoning was to be near her classmates who will mostly live in the Cobham and oxshott area.
