Hello, I am a US citizen that married and moved to the UK in 2012. I learned this year that i need to keep filing my us tax returns, and so I'm in the process of doing that now, but I'm at a loss on a few things, namely, which forms to use.
I do not earn much, close to £650 a month. My wife is the main earner until I can get a better job. It seems like it should be a pretty simple thing to report this, but I'm not sure what forms I should be using. I've seen many recommendations on here to use the 1040 form, but then I started hearing about 1040nr, and I'm unsure if I should be using it and what it is exactly? Also, what other forms do I need, if any? It seems like there are several options that might be helpful such as foreign tax credit, etc. As all my money is getting taxed in the UK(no US income), I shouldn't get taxed in the US, as I understand the treaty.
It's been a big headache trying to understand this, any help will be very appreciated.
Thanks
