Shipping West Coast to UK- Recommendations Wanted
« on: February 28, 2012, 10:46:52 PM »
I'm moving back home to the UK (slight sadface) from San Francisco, CA and need to ship some things back. I arrived here with basically a suitcase so I've got no idea about shipping but I'd like to use a US based company anyway.

I am shipping the usual household stuff and looking for recommendations from anyone who has recent experience of a reliable company (or even who to stay away from).

Here's an interesting adjunct to the scenario, it would be awesome if anyone can recommend a shipper who can also deal with motorcycles. I already have a great quote for my bike- on the east coast- but now I've decided to ship some other stuff I would be interested - but it's not absolutely necessary - in combining both shipments with one supplier.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance.

Google motorcycle thefts in the UK and then decide if it is worthwhile.
I'm sure you have checked the legality of importing a motorcycle.
Happy riding

Hi,

If you take good measures to protect your property there's a much less chance of theft etc - don't take Cheers' little scaremongering there to heart !

The last time I checked into this sort of thing was for both ways, for me exporting a car from the UK to the US and bringing a car from the US to the UK. For the West Coast I was quoted around £1700 and the same price for both options above with a 21 day sailing time. A container with a car inside is of course quite large so a motorbike being much smaller could be put into a solid crate and then perhaps put into the container with your other belongings as well. Or, you might find a deal from one of the shippers where you can be quoted to bring the bike across and it'll be in a shared container that's coming across anyway.

Do check on the legalities of importing a bike, it's fairly straightforward though but it is something you need to research prior to bringing it in.

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!
