Cetaphil changed while I was away!
« on: March 02, 2012, 10:13:00 AM »
Just a note for others who may have liked Cetaphil in the past:

I was excited to bring a bottle of Cetaphil over from my recent visit to the US.  It had been five years since I'd been back, and I had missed the gentle cleanser with no added junk that was one of the few things that worked nicely for my sensitive skin.

I looked carefully at the store to see if there were any new products.  There were new lotions, but the store I went to only had one cleanser, so I bought a big bottle and went home.  It's only after I got home that I realised that the cleanser is completely different to what I used to use.  It's nasty--full of perfume (which doesn't help my sensitive skin and it doesn't even smell good), doesn't look the same, and you can no longer use it without water, which you could often do with the old cleanser.  When I use it, it feels kind of sticky and I have a harder time getting it off my face.  I really do not like this at all.

I looked online and found they changed the formula entirely a few years ago without telling people.  The reviews I read said that they do still sell the original stuff but as a sensitive skin formula.  The (very big) WalMart I went to did not have that or I'd have looked more closely.  I dont' know if they still make this sensitive skin formula or not--the webpage I read was from just after they changed the formula.

I was really disappointed and found out too late, so I thought I'd post the advice here in case anyone else wanted to get some from the States.

I buy Cetaphil here in the UK at Costco.  Better stock up while the original stuff is still being sold!

Interesting.  I have a Costco membership and have never seen it there.  It must not be carried at all the stores.  It was several years ago that they changed the formula, so I'm curious if the one Costco sells it has any perfumes.

You can buy Cetaphil from Boots...and probably other pharmacies too - when I worked there, we kept in in the dispensary (because we ordered it in for prescriptions), so you might have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter (some Cetaphil products are available on the Boots website though).

I'll have to check.  If it is this same stuff I've bought in the States last month, I'll never be buying it again.  I don't like it at all.  It's kind of the same, but the perfume and the change to it's consistency so it doesn't just wipe off when I use it without water, is just wrong.  I liked the stuff I used to get six years ago.

I recently saw it on the shelves of my mid to large sized boots in town.
I've seen it in Costco near the beauty care stuff and the E45. Cant tell you if its the same as I never used it
