Has anyone used Excess Baggage or UPAKWESHIP?
« on: August 11, 2013, 11:17:22 PM »
I'm looking way in advanced here (like, a year in advance, really...), but I'm trying to figure out what my options are for just a few boxes. I'll have, probably, about 5 boxes of clothing/shoes to bring with me. Excess Baggage and UPAKWESHIP seem to both be priced very reasonably for this.

Has anyone had any experience with either company?

If it's only 5 reasonable sized boxes (say around 18x18x18), I would look into just shipping them with USPS. Or maybe that excessbaggage. I'm not sure how cost effective upak would be for that small of a shipment.

I've just signed up to use upakweship for a 150cu.ft. U-crate - which is going to be around 22/23 boxes of various sizes, plus a modular bookcase & desk kit. I know they've had some iffy customer service, so once we get through the process, I'll make sure to come on here and leave a review.

I used upakweship when I moved in September 2011.  I was really pleased with them, especially on the US end. I shipped about 20 large boxes and 5-6 very large plastic tubs. Two small, cheap items got broken but both were MY fault, as I was running out of packing material and didn't pack them as well as I should have.  I thought it took a bit longer to get my stuff delivered (about 2 weeks longer than I expected), but all in all I was very pleased.

The US customer service was awesome. A few days before the day they were supposed to come and get my things, we had a bad storm/flooding and were left with no electricity for days. The people were really nice, patient and calming, considering I was flipping out because I had no internet/phone to reach them with my forms.

I still remember crying on the phone from the stress of visas and moving and mountains of paperwork and the guy saying, "Sweetie...... don't cry. I *promise* you, we are going to get this all sorted and you don't have to worry about a thing." And he did! :) So I have nothing but good things to say about them.
