Question on new baby and passport questions...

Hi all,

I just went to get my baby a British birth cert but I have a few questions in what to do next...

My husband is a British Citizen and I am a US Citizen.
Our baby is born in UK,

So does it means the baby is a BC and a USC as well?

Can I apply for both passports for my baby?

Do I apply for the Consular Notification of Birth Abroad before applying for a US passport for my baby?

Yes, yes, yes.

Just a side note for the US Citizenship....your child most likely IS entitled to US citizenship, but the US does put some caveats on citizenship based on the parents residency in the US.  I forget the exact parameters, but the parent has to have lived in the US for a certain number of years after the age of 12 or 14 or something like that.  It's spelled out in the supporting documentation on the US Embassy's website.  Unless you lived out side of the US for a long period of time during your teens, I am am sure it's nothing to worry about. 

You can apply for the consular notification and passport at the same time, in person, at the embassy.

Depends on how soon you want to travel to the US.  It doesn't look like there are any time limits on the Notification of Birth Abroad, other than the child still being under 18.  They just vaguely recommend doing it as soon as possible.

I think you may need to do the CRBA in the same calendar year as the birth if you want to claim the child as a dependent on your US tax return.

Did my daughter's at six months old and my son's at about 5 months.  Did the Certificate of Birth Abroad, SSN and US Passports all at the same time.  Fairly straightforward process.
