circumsicion clinics in London?
« on: May 16, 2012, 03:41:48 PM »
Hi all,

My husband and I are currently looking into circumcision options for our baby boy who is due this summer.  We know it's not a procedure that is covered by the NHS so we contacted our local private hospital, the Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, but their specialists told us that they only do the procedure on children over three years old.  My husband is Jewish (and I am not, though all the males in my family are circumcised) and the local Jewish community in Cambridge (which is quite small) won't perform a bris on our child since he is not technically Jewish.  Our GPs and midwives don't have any information as to where one might be able to do this in Cambridge and we dare not raise such a controversial topic at our NCT classes.

As we have no options in Cambridge we were wondering if anyone would tell me the names of people/places in London where this might be possible and their contact info?  The previous thread from 2009 mentions that there are some mohels and clinics in London (and maybe in Luton?) which do this, but we would appreciate any accounts of personal experiences you may have had recently (you may private message me, since this is a controversial topic).

Thank you!

Please remember everyone...she's just looking for helpful suggestions, not a discussion about why one should/shouldn't consider circumcising their child.

Thanks!  :)

As you've probably already figured out, you're likely going to have to pay for this out of pocket. I think some Urologists will do this. I also know that at least one member here (who is Jewish) was able to find a mohel to do it. There are some old threads on here about this but some of them have strayed into the pro/con direction. ;)

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Have you tried to google Urologists or Mohel's in the London area? Perhaps your doctor can refer you to someone? :) Good luck!

Dear all,

Thanks for your replies and private messages.

We are currently following up several leads, which I will post here in case anyone else is considering their options:

Mohels who are also GPs based in and around London:

http://www.mohel-circumcision.co.uk/

http://circumcisionlondon.co.uk/

The Portland Hospital for Women and Children in London also does private circumcisions, with no attitudes or eyebrows raised.  Dickinson Cowan is the name of the relevant consultant.

Thanks again, everyone.
