I pointed out my silly name printout to the biometrics guy, and he just said, "Yeah, it's a really stupid system.  I'll fix that for you."  Watched him fix it on the screen, and no questions asked from New York.  :)

Just as an FYI to other people who are applying, if there is a problem with your name being wrong on the application (and it's a common issue), it's very important that you do ask them to change it in the system when you go for your biometrics... because your name on the biometrics (and the application) must match the name in your passport.

Sorry to be thick, so for other names, I put my maiden name as that was another I was known by, so on my application it reads "first maiden married".  My passport is just in my married name with my actual middle name, so "first middle married".  From what you say, I have to have them correct the fact that I put my maiden name on my application since that is not is what is on my passport, correct?

Yes. There is an error in the online form which means that it comes up with First Maiden Married instead of First (Middle) Married when you submit it.

You should correct it by hand on your printed application form and then ask them to correct it in the system when you go for the biometrics appointment.

Thanks, ksand24.  I'll do just that.   :)

I can't believe after all this talking about it and research that I'm to the "finish" line in submitting.

Hey aricari, I'll be just north of Nottingham - so not too far from Sheffield!

Question to the thread as a whole. Is anyone else finding themselves getting completely p&**ed at their partner/DH/DF? I love him dearly, but argh! If nothing else, this is a TRUE test of communication skills, especially if apart while applying.

I've been a bit moody as well (application stress and "that time of the month" on top of it).  I've snapped at DH a few times the past couple of weeks.  Since we live together here, he usually just ignores me, bites his tongue and let's me go on as he knows where it's stemming from.   :)

OMG Yes. For the entire month of January DF and I spoke of nothing but the stupid visa. What made the process difficult is that I'm a planner and a worrier and DF kind of just shuffles along and hopes for the best. He doesn't plan things in advance. So, if there was a hitch in document collection, I would get annoyed because it could have been avoided with planning and then he would get annoyed with me for "nagging." Also, we've had a few tense conversations in the past with him sending me stuff via Royal Mail only to have it never arrive or vice versa. So, I explicitly said NO ROYAL MAIL this time and he almost used it anyway because it was too difficult to overnight things via FedEx.  ::) Yeah, we had words over that situation. I won.  ;D

The tension completely went away once I sent off the stuff to the consulate though. I applied priority and it never really occurred to me that we wouldn't be approved.

Haha, you guys are so right.  I think it's a pretty typical response to the whole situation, which is a very stressful one.  I was pretty nervous and irritable as a result.

The tension completely went away once I sent off the stuff to the consulate though. I applied priority and it never really occurred to me that we wouldn't be approved.

This!  Well, I didn't get my hopes too high just in case, but the tension definitely subsided.  My husband even commented that I seemed so much better and at ease, like when we first got together.  It had turned me into a ball of nerves.  But what a relief it is when that first part's over.  You're almost there, guys!  :D

And PlainPearl, I feel your pain on the Royal Mail.  God, it took forever for one of our letters to get here from England, and that was WITH priority or whatever.  Definitely didn't help matters during the last stretch.

Sounds IDENTICAL to us PlainPearl! DH is 41 and had never sent a FedEx before. He thought it was so cool that you could track things online. He kept texting me to say "it's in LA" or "it's on the truck" etc. It was cute.

I think that's the case for many of us!

I remember that up until actually sending everything out, all we spoke about was the visa.  And once the visa was issued (a few days after sending it out, with priority), we both sat there on Skype being like, "Err, so.  Yay visa.  How's the weather?"

I'm sure you already know this, but speaking of planning in advance, remember to make sure you collect as many documents as you can addressed to both of you at the same address individually and/or jointly as you'll need them evenly spaced out over the years to eventually apply for ILR.

Indeed.  I highly stress that when sending important documents, never to use ParcelForce/Royal Mail.  I remember seeing a case where someone almost didn't make the deadline getting her documents to the Consulate due to her evidence being sent Royal Mail.

A birthday card of mine never made it to me when we were still dating long distance.  I would hate to think of important visa documents getting lost like that as well.  Eeek!

Yes, thanks for that.  :) I am most definitely on top of it.
