How do you handle interviews from the US?

Most of the Masters programs I want to apply to seem to require some kind of interview during the selection process and this is a little worrying for obvious reasons!

I have 2 schools in particular that I am very determined to get into, so if I were accepted for an interview I would do everything possible to get time off work to fly to the UK for it. However, if I'm applying to 10 schools, and the interviews are all scheduled at different times, there is no possible way I can afford to keep flying back and forth.

Does anybody have any advice or experience with this? How does this work if you're an overseas student? I can't imagine they'd make special concessions but has anyone done interviews over Skype or anything, or is it basically a case of "if you can't attend interview, you're disqualified regardless of where you live"?

The two programs I applied to required interviews, but I was accepted into both programs without having one.

I was already in the UK when I applied for masters degrees (UK citizen), but I didn't have any interviews for them - I just received acceptance letters in the post a few weeks after applying.

After I had accepted one of the offers, I was then invited for an interview to determine if I would be eligible for any grant funding, but there were no interviews during the actual application process.

Ohh okay, good to know - so interviews don't necessarily need to be in person? I'd be up for a phone interview.

I'm just going to apply to them regardless and if the interview issue comes up, I'll tell them my situation and hope for the best. If there's nothing they can do, c'est la vie right?
