Dogs flying Virgin - cheaper than BA
« on: March 27, 2012, 12:00:09 AM »
Now British Airways will only work with a pet mover instead of directly through the person.  I got quoted £1380, cheapest quote from a pet mover.

Called Virgin, and they deal directly with the customer.  Total cost just a little over £1000. Amazed they were cheaper.  And they are going to give my husband and step kids a tour of behind the scenes and exactly where the dogs will go on the day before the flight.

Oh the things we will do for our dogs (and cats)

We were lucky when we moved ours one of the airlines available only charged us the excess baggage rate $100!! much better than the rate we had to pay to bring them over:)  A tour would be really interesting, I'd be interested to read about it.

Are you sure BA meant pet relocation company or just pet agent? I flew my dog & cat with them and needed a pet agent (James Cargo) booked - no extra cost and they just got my boys from the plane to animal reception. My mom dropped them off in person at one end and I picked them up in person at the other end.

This was in 2010 so their policy might have changed, but if not, BA could still work out cheaper.

I assume since this is in repatriation, you are going back to the US?  If so, then you are right - BA will only work with a pet relocation company.

For anyone else's ref: this is only going OUT of the UK.  You can still book travel TO the UK yourself with BA.

Yes - it was to bring dogs to the US from the UK.  Virgin at Gatewick was really helpful.  Virgin cargo in Orlando could have cared less about me or my dogs.
