GRILLLLLLLED by the placement agency today!
« on: September 21, 2004, 01:48:43 PM »
Don't know why i wasn't expecting a throrough grilling and all....but i wasn't.  BUt OMG, this guy put me through the mill, firing questions at me left and right.  When i met with the placement agency to get my job in the states it was so easy!  This was tough!

Luckily he put me through to the company and *hopefully* they will want to interview me, but giving the sound of the guy who will interview me, i better be PREPARED.  Hardcore!!!!!!

This finding a job stuff is for the birds!  Plus i'm a little annoyed, the salary range for the job is good, but the agent said since i don't have exact experience in the field (pr) but i do have experience in the type of industry the PR is for and my strong marketing experience i should be fine.  he did warn that i'm a little young for it (senior role) and, that i'm american and don't have any uk experience.  BAH.

Please hire me.....please!!!!!  I'm tired of interviewing, and i've only talked with a few companies!!!

Awww, sorry it was a bit traumatising, Aimiloo, but hang in there.  Sounds like they are going to make sure you are really good fit for anything they put you forward for.

PR is notoriously hard to get into, so I'd be encouraged that they are fairly positive about you getting this job.  It is a hard catch-22 situation sometimes with employers who want some UK experience, but you can always do a bit of temp work and get something on your resume.  (And not all temp work is administrative!)  With the good maternity benefits here, it isn't too hard to get a fairly long term contract in a management position if you find the right agency.

Best of luck, sweetie!  Here's hopin' the agency did all the hard stuff and your interview with the employer is a breeze for you!

:)

Hi Aimiloo,

I had a similar experience. Well, a little different. I first started out temping as I was trying to transfer from one industry to the next, and in a new country. I did some contracts and temped for about a year and a half. I found it easy to stay in these contracts and did not actively pursue permanent work.

When I finally decided to pursue permanent work, I interviewed for a position with an agency and did not expect the grilling I received. I came out of it just knowing that this guy would not put me forward. My head was splitting when I left the interview. He did put me forward, but only after a couple of weeks and interviewing numerous others. When I finally interviewed with the company, it was a breeze compared to what this guy put me through. I got the job. I work for a huge tea company as a Training and Development Executive. It's a dream job for me. A far cry from the temp work I started out in.

Good luck to you and here's hoping the grilling eases up. I agree with Wishstar, it's probably a good sign that you were grilled so much.

JNA

Thank you!

Since i have 2 more 'grillings' tomorrow, i'm happy about that!  I also am happy to know that i shouldn't be worried that the company hasn't called yet.  He told me it may take a few days......but for some reason i was hoping for an instant call.   ;)

But the job tomorrow is stellar and it's in my old industry and i know it like the back of my hand.  I'm really hoping i wow the recruiter tomorrow and will be prepared coming off of yesterday's interview!

Thanks for your help.  I have to say, if I don't get anywhere next week, i'm going to start looking for temp work.

YEsterday's meeting were much easier and much more profitable.  I'm praying some of these companies want to see me next week!

i'm so IMPATIENT.  I know i should enjoy my free time off in a new city, but i'm so nervous to start interviewing with the companies and then get a call from the 2 i really want and really want those instead.

BAH.  Nothing is guaranteed, i could get none of these jobs.  I just want it done with!!!!  enough of my whining.   ;)
