NOT everyone has to pay for medicines- if you are working you get free medicines....
Prescriptions are only free to everyone if you live in Scotland or Wales.
However, if you live in England, you definitely don't get them free if you are working - prescriptions are £7.65 per item on the script and only certain people can get them free. In fact, usually it's people who are not working (as per my list below) who get them free and people who are working have to pay for them.
All prescriptions are free to people in England who fit the following categories:
- they are under 16 or are 16, 17 or 18 and in full time education
- they are over 60
- they are on certain UK benefits/have a low income
- they are pregnant
- they have a certain medical condition (i.e. diabetes, thyroid conditions)
- they have cancer
- they are a renal dialysis patient
- birth control prescriptions are free to everyone
