Potential expat
« on: September 03, 2012, 02:25:06 AM »
Hello everyone!

My name's Mae and I'm an American with the potential to move to the UK (Scotland specifically).

Tomorrow, my husband and I will be celebrating our 2 year anniversary and within the next 5 years we are looking to potentially move to Scotland.

The husband is originally from Scotland and moved out to California to be with me and we got married. When we think about starting a family and having children, we are highly considering Scotland.

I've been to Scotland twice (once in the summer and once in the winter) and have loved every moment.

I joined the forum just to start asking questions about moving/jobs etc.

I'm very excited to get to know more people!

Welcome!  :) Happy anniversary tomorrow! Where in California are you? What about Scotland makes you want to move there (strictly speaking out of curiosity  :))?
9/11/2012 Husband mailed his US citizenship application.
9/17/2012 Received e-mail stating his application has been entered into the system.
9/22/2012 Hubby received letter with date for finger printing.
10/12/12 Hubby went for finger printing.
10/26/12 Dh got a letter stating when he should appear for his interview and test- 11/27/12- just a month away!!!
11/27/12 We went to dh's interview and test- he passed and we went back 4 hours later for the Oath Ceremony! 95 people from 38 countries, really pretty cool!
So he's now a US citizen!!

Thank you! I'm originally from Carson, CA (Southern CA about 20 minutes outside of LA) but now live in San Jose. My husband is originally from Scotland (Glasgow) and moved out here to be with me and get married.  :)

Our potential move to Glasgow is for our future babies! We plan on having children within the next 3 to 5 years and we're best deciding on where to raise our children. My husband was born in Canada and has Canadian citizen but grew up in Scotland. His parents were born in Scotland as were his grandparents, etc.

Essentially we could move to Canada or Scotland. But Scotland is where all his family live and who are more supportive of our marriage. (I'm Filipino and it's been very difficult for my family to accept that I'm married to a non-Filipino, especially one who isn't an American citizen). The fact that there is free education and free health care is also a plus.

And no matter where we moved, my job as a teacher is pretty flexible in me being able to get a job. That's why I'm asking questions within the forum just to make sure that I have enough qualifications to teach immediately if we do make the move to Scotland.

I think, long term we are looking for what's best for our children. Not to mention that I fell in love with Scotland when I visited twice. Except their winter . . . where it was so cold and I almost kept freezing to death!   :\\\'(

:)
