Just came back from a weird hybrid work trip - across multiple time zones- passby to see family trip -

Was exhausting, lots of work.  I was on the east coast, then the west coast, then the east coast.  Because it was a work trip, ate out the whole time and yikes, American portion sizes are crazy.  Drank far too much.

Excellent beer drinking in the US!  Such good microbrews -and even mainstream beers like Sam Adams Summer and Bluemoon, yum!

No family drama, had lots of fun visiting in a whirlwind of time zones  :)

Brought back only a few things - mostly things from my Grandfather's house that my Mom thought I would want- a calico paper mache cat that I have been obsessed with since I was little, some casette tapes (yay for tape player in my car!), plus some other little knick-knacks.

Requisite hot tamales candy and eight o'clock coffee beans.  A bottle of jalepeno hot sauce that I saw- not something I was searching for specifically but looked interesting! Plus a new hemp wrap around skirt, a pair of fair trade cotton trousers, a pair of tie dyed trousers, plus some boring work clothes-  a new pair of grey work trousers and two new work shirts (black button down and a plaid one).

I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I'm headed out tomorrow, Heathrow to Dulles. I'll spend tomorrow evening and Friday hanging out in DC, visiting some cousins and re visiting some sights as it's been over 10 years since I was last there.

Saturday morning I am renting a car and heading south to collect my son and his wife from the Richmond airport, and then onward to the Outer Banks of NC.

Unfortunately R's mum is seriously ill and will not be joining me so that is putting a damper on my mood.

The up is that I have not seen much of my family these past few years as my trips have been taking me back to CA more than PA so I am looking forward to seeing everyone. This will be our first family holiday together since 1982.

Thanks hon! I've just been to Marks and now my suitcase is full of tea and shortbread. It will just have to do this time.  :)
