Cruise?
« on: July 05, 2012, 10:44:19 PM »
I was wondering if anyone here has been on a cruise before? I am going in October and now I reeeeally don't want to go because I have a fear of open water. It's only for a week, but I still am freaking out and it's all my family members are talking about. :c I know my grandmother would really be mad if I said I wasn't going because she spent money on it but I didn't realize how bad this fear was until it started sorta getting closer to when we're going. Has anyone else gone on one with this fear and it turned out ok? I keep having these dreams about a Titanic like scenario, lmao. Cept that would kinda not happen since we're going to Jamaica and other such islands... I am suck a paranoid person I swear.  :-\\\\

I felt that exact same way.  I've always been they type that was terrified of going on a big cruise because I knew I couldn't see the shoreline out there and if something happened (like any Titanic scenario), how would I know which direction to swim in?

Anyway, my boyfriend at the time was talking to my best girlfriend one day.  She knew better than to ask me to go on a cruise, so she asked him.  He wasn't aware of my fear, so he agreed.  I was still scared, but I sucked it up and went on facing my demon head on.  I have to say that I had one of the best vacations I've had on that cruise and I was SO happy I went.  The boat was stable, the food was amazing and the people so nice and helpful (we went from Boston to Bermuda...also one week).

From a person who was absolutely terrified about going on a huge ship, I say do it.  It ended up being an incredible experience and one that I will gladly do again in a heartbeat.  You only live once (at least in this life  ;)).

I haven't been on a cruise, so I can't offer any advice but my inlaws go on one or two a year. They LOVE them. They tell me that there is a massive selection of 24 hour food, activities and stuff. Apparently it is impossible to be bored on a cruise. I think you'll love it.

They tell me that it's better to get a room in the middle, you don't feel the waves as much. Perhaps you should request a room like that.
There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.

What cruise line? Do you know the class of ship?

I went on my first cruise in May this year for my sister's destination wedding. We were on Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas. It is the world's largest passenger ship. I think that and the weather helped with noticing the open sea. There were so many events. It felt like summer camp for adults. The food was good too and catered for special diets.

Enjoy it!

Thank you very much this is extremely helpful! I am still so terrified of going but I am going to have to suck it up and just go! I want it to turn out ok, but it really bugs me that my mind just won't let me be at peace, I always have to find something wrong that might happen. I pray my time on the cruise was as good as your's! :)

Really? Those people are such brave souls I say. I must've drowned in a past life at sea, lol. I just hate, hate, hate the water. Unless it's in a swimming pool....
But we're apparently going to be near the top of the ship, which is a pretty d*mn good thing for me because I know I'll freak if I feel/hear waves.

Umm, I'm not sure of the name, but I will ask my grandmother, I know the ship is enormous and has a bunch of actives. She says "Oh you won't even know you're on a ship!" Yeah.. pretty sure I'm gonna be aware until I get the frick off of it! These good stories are helping! I think I watch too much news where they only focus on the horror stories, lol.
