Expiry date on ILR visa
« on: July 23, 2012, 03:27:18 PM »
Hi, my American civil partner just got her ILR. On the residence permit it clearly states Indefinite Leave to Remain but it has an expiry date in 10 years time. In the accompanying information it doesn't mention how you go about renewing it when it expires. Has anyone else had an expiry date on an ILR visa?

Just to be clear, your partner was issued a BRP? (I didnt think they were doing this any more, but what do I know?)

Yes - she applied for ILR after the 2 year FLR period was up. The card is titled 'Residence Permit' - It says type of permit is 'Settlement' and under Remarks is 'Indefinite Leave to Remain'. Under her name is Valid until - there is a date 10 years from now.

The expiry date will be for the BRP, not for the Leave itself - if it says "Indefinite", it means "Indefinite". There'll be a form on the UKBA website somewhere for renewing a BRP, but clearly you're not going to have to worry about that for another ten years! And if your partner gets her citizenship before then, it's irrelevant anyway.  :)
