Is there alternative medicine in UK?
« on: August 07, 2012, 07:39:44 PM »
My family has always subscribed to alternative medicine practices, and I find them to help me as an adult as well. In the UK are there holistic medicine facilities? I prefer doctors that tell you to eat differently instead of to take a pill, and acupuncturists and herbal remedies instead of antibiotics. I understand of course that if I break my arm I want an MD, but my chiropractors have done more for my digestive issues then all the prevacid and tubes down my throat sampling my insides. Is this sort of medicine available there? I understand it might be just a pay more for it thing, but I am fine with that assuming it isn't outrageous. Thoughts?

There is a wide range of alternative therapies in the UK. I see an acupuncturist who uses reiki and previously a chiropractor and nutritionist. I have friends who see homeopaths, osteopaths, chinese herbal medicine specialist etc.

Oh yeah, complementary therapies are around a lot. I was seeing an acupuncturist for a long time -she was really helpful.    You just (usually 99% of the time) have to pay for them privately and are not available on the NHS

I see a chiropractor regularly and use a healthcare reimbursement scheme to help pay for it (and get a big chunk of the cost of new glasses back every 2 years) http://www.bhsf.co.uk/personal/hcp.html
