UK - Orlando, Fl....Help!!!
« on: September 29, 2004, 12:26:02 PM »
When I came over here on my spousal visa I bought a round trip ticket because I was trying to cut down the cost of it a bit. However my return time was to come back and visit my parents for Christmas and to bring my husband along with me to meet everyone. Although when I went to price flights yesterday for him (return ticket) I noticed that the flights were £790. I couldn't believe it!! He and I want to fly on 22 December and be back on 29 December (so that we are there exactly a week).

Does anyone know of anywhere that we can get flights for cheap at? Something has to be cheaper than £790, it would be very hard for us to afford that and things would have to suffer here at home just to pay for it. Thanks in advance everyone!! x x x

Oh and I forgot - it has to be flying out of Gatwick Airport as that is where my return trip ticket to Florida is for and my return back to the UK will be for. Ta!!!!

we've used www.airline-network.co.uk the last two times we've bought tickets and we've saved quite a bit, when compared to expedia or travelocity (and especially when compared with the airline sites themselves!)

Another way to go is to call the airlines and ask when the cheap dates are before the Holiday rates kick in... If you're able to arrange travel to accomodate the cheaper flight dates.

Also, if you have someone in the States who can do it for you and then you reimburse them, you'll get a cheaper flight based on the dollar versus £.

My dealings were with Virgin, who were fabulous; and my fabulous dad, who booked the ticket from his end, then emailed me the e-ticket.

Note that the "pre-holiday" fares for Christmas tend to end around the 15th, 16th, 17th December.  I don't mean to be discouraging, but the chances of finding cheap airfare from the UK to Florida 3 days before Christmas is pretty slim.  :-\\\\

Correct.  With Virgin, the 15th is the last day.

OUCH, Missy....yeah, holidays.  Worse time to get economical flights anywhere....but ESPECIALLY to a resort-type/vacation destination like Orlando (which is beyond me...but, I'm quite vocal about my dislike of the State, LOL).

Plus....WHY is it that round trip tickets cost less then one-way?  That has never made sense to me.  When I get my spousal visa (I say WHEN, here's to hope, ya know), I don't think I'd even get a round-trip ticket to save money (even though, saving money is a HUGE issue at this point for me and the DH); I don't even want to THINK about going back to Florida for a good, long time!  ;D

I hope you find a good deal on flights, though, Missy.....AND, PM me when you get a chance.

Songmistress, I got a wonderful deal on one-way tickets to London on Virgin through www.skyauction.com.  They were great.  I mention them a few times in past threads that are still here! ;D

Alas, you've chosen a peak date to fly over so you *may* gut lucky but don't count on it.  Lisa and I got very cheap fares a couple of years ago flying on 26th and I believe 25th is cheaper still - in our case the brief family visit of a few days worked out fine.

Yeah I'm not sure what I'm going to do as of yet but cheers all for the good ideas...I know it's a peak time to fly at and then say 'Hey give me a good rate!' We might have to miss Christmas then and go on a visit at the beginning of the year or something, only thing that means is pushing back the return date on my ticket (for £200 grr to that). Guess we'll have to play it by ear, maybe we'll get lucky and his Mum will want to pay for him to have a nice Christmas with his new in-laws hehe I wish!!

Ta all!!! *huggles*
