Chlorine free diapers/nappies?
« on: August 12, 2012, 08:57:18 AM »
Anyone purchase disposable nappies/diapers that are chlorine-free in the UK? We use cloth diapers but also disposable diapers that are chlorine free. The only brand we can locate in the UK is Naty Nature diapers, which from our experience haven't been the best (leaking, ripping, etc.).

Sainsburys does an own brand of eco diapers that I think fit the bill. We use cloth but we've gotten some of them to use on holidays and not had any problems.

Can you access Seventh Generation diapers in the UK, maybe online? Interesting what you said about the Naty diapers. I'm planning on using cloth, but I bought some Naty diapers off a neighbor who had extras to use in the early days. She felt they worked better than Huggies/Pampers/etc.

That's interesting as I had the same experience as the OP.  I did not like them at all--leaks and less absorbent.

Bleurgh - whatever you do, don't buy Pampers. I do cloth as well, but have disposables on hand for travelling. Pampers smell! Not poo-stinky, but artificial baby poweder-ish weirdness that gets stronger as they get wetter. Way weird if you're used to cloth.
There are a couple of Whole Foods Markets in the UK that can help you out - a few in London, one in Glasgow, and others opening all the time.

I totally agree with this. We got a few packets at our shower (which annoyed me because I registered for all sorts of cloth stuff and got none of that, but whatever) and they were sitting next to the sofa for awhile. I had to move them because the stink coming off of them was gross! I can't even imagine how they would smell when they're wet! Blech!

We used Costco's own brand largely due to the Pampers stink. Huggies were OK, too, but Costco was cheaper.

To the OP, we used Sainsbury's eco diapers when we were in the UK and liked them.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Thanks everyone!

We used cloth diapers and Earth's Best chlorine free diapers when we were in US (EB disposable diapers are great by the way).

We will try the Sainsbury's Eco diapers. We are in Cambridge so do not have access to Whole Foods (which is probably a good thing...). We looked for Seventh Generation Products on Amazon UK website but all the listings were for private sellers where they were either overpriced or have limited stock (none had 'subscribe and save' option or were sold my Amazon).

We had really hoped to like the Naty Nature Diapers but they unfortunately do not work very well for our 2 year old daughter and it seems like we end up using even more diapers.

Totally agree about the Pampers and Huggies having a weird smell of baby powder or something odd!

We actually used naty in the states as we heard 7th gen dyed theirs brown, which I thought was ridiculous. They worked fine for us, so planning on using them here for our second in a few months.
