Always carry passport?

We are in the UK now, for three years at least.  Do we have to carry our passports at all times while we are here?  Do the kids have to take them to school?

No, why would you need to?  Don't send your kids to school with their passports!

No. Not at all. Keep them in a safe place. You may be asked to produce them from every now and then to prove identity for certain things, but you don't need to carry them with you at all times. The UK is not a country that requires proof of status upon demand.

Keep the passports in a safe place, preferably locked away and discreet, and only bring them out when you absolutely need to (i.e. for travelling, or if you need to produce them for any reason, like opening a bank account or for a job application or something).

Yeah, definitely don't send your kids to school with them - they're sure to get lost/stolen/damaged in no time!!
