Shipping odd items
« on: August 02, 2012, 10:40:04 PM »
In case someone has done something similar before...

Anyone ship the following, and have any first-hand advice?

1.  I have a very sentimental ivy plant.  It's been with me for 7 years in the US, and my mom has been tending to it since I moved here (about 2 years ago).  I would love to eventually move it here as well, and assume I would have to go through a quarantine process and get a license of some sort to import it?

2.  I would like to bring my fencing supplies over.  If anyone here fences and brought over their stuff, do I have to do anything special with it?  Would it technically count as a blade/weapon?

TIA!   :-*

I can speak to the fencing equipment.  I studied Shinkendo when I was in college and still have my bokken.  When we moved to the UK (haven't even been here a month!) our legal advisor for our move told me not to bring it as it would be considered a weapon.  Not sure if the same would apply to a foil.  Hope that helps a bit.

I've been wondering the same thing--I have a few ornamental swords and a lovely battle axe that I use for photography props.  I don't want to leave them behind, and it looks as though some swords/knives are legal, you just can't walk around with them.

I would love to know what you find out about your plant. I have a night blooming cereus that belonged to my grandmother and is over 75 yrs old. I would love to able to bring it over. I know I could probably find a replacement over there but I really would prefer to have this one because of the connection to my nan.
