Antibiotics and alcohol?

For what it's worth, I've heard that with most antibiotics there's nothing wrong with consuming alcohol--the reasons it's discouraged are:
1) you'll be too drunk to remember to take it on time/at all
2)you'll throw up before the drug dissolves.
