Hello to Everyone !
« on: October 04, 2004, 03:25:17 PM »
Hi

My name is Karen (my English hubby calls me Kas which is fine by me).
Hopefully we will moving to the UK in the next year. We would be there now but for the high house prices etc. Briefly was born in NC but lived in Florida since I was a kid. Moved back to the Charlotte area in April, but it is not the place for us.
Am a ature student currently 9 months into a BA degree in Computer science, but not sure about this ie. which way I want to go (Graphic design, Web etc). Really wanted to go into Forensics, but we found out that you have to be born in the UK/EU to get a job over in the UK really in this field, well so I was told. So changed tack and hopefully in the future this course will help with employment. Anyway sorry to bore you all, but just thought I would introduce myself.
Think this site is really so helpful and fun.

Take care
Kas

Hi Kas, welcome to the site!

I know how it feels to be wondering about a career but do let me offer a tad of advice/info... the graphic design market is saturated over here. There are loads of schools who offer courses and degrees in graphic design and loads of new grads trying to get jobs. The field is also a bit biased towards younger people so it can be a bit hard to break into. If you plan on doing graphic design, be prepared to work hard and try to set yourself apart. Not sure about web design but I think that, like IT in general, is a bit saturated, too.

Regarding forensics, I can't believe you'd have to be UK/EU born to get into this. If that's what you really want, make sure you're certain about this before giving up!

Good luck!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Hiya Kas.. I can't really tell you much more than Balmers did on the job front.  I just wanted to say hello and welcome to UKY!
