Anyone in Southampton know a place my husband and I can move?
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:32:20 AM »
Hi guys, if you've seen my earlier posts you may have already seen that we currently live with his useless, alcoholic mother. There was an episode last night, and another one this morning, that has really made me sick of it all. We are in a tough spot financially because I'm still waiting for my spouse visa. But we are hoping to get out on our own quickly, and I need to make that happen. We've put up with these awful circumstances for long enough now. Does ANYONE out there know of a low-cost place to live in Southampton? We don't care if it's an apartment, a shared house, whatever. We just honestly need a place to go. We don't have very many things and the two of us could quite easily fit into one room. I'm serious, we would move into a closet with a wet mop in it if we could. I am really hoping someone can help, or give some ideas for what we could do.

I'm sorry for your troubles.

Perhaps this site would help?

Married 04/13/11, in NYC.
Applied for Spouse Visa the following week, with express service, and I was approved 4 days later!
Arrived in the UK 05/20/11.
I took the stupid LIUK Test Oct. 2012.
We were granted ILR In Person in Croydon on 04/23/13.
Got BRP 2 days later, in mail box - it just appeared.

Hi,

I'll go straight to the point for you. I don't know of anywhere off hand, but if you go to London Road there are several estate agents there. Also there are several websites where you could find a room to let. Just run a search for rooms in Southampton. If you don't have access at home the library has a few internet machines that you can use for free.  Hopefully one of these will get you out of your situation.

Hopefully we will see you on the 29th at the get together. I've been here just over 19 years. It can be infuriating the way some things are done here, but you adapt after a while.

Take care and good luck,

Bill K  :)

I will ask my husband tonight if he still has our former landlord's phone number. He has a bunch of shared flats, I think most of them are close to the university. Ours was and so were a couple of the other ones he showed us. We rented a double room from him for over a year. This is sort of an awkward time to be moving with all the students descending upon the city. I will check for you.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I haven't checked back here since posting that message, but for anyone who was wondering, we did find a place to move. Shared house with a few people, a few blocks closer to the city center than where we are now. :) We just have to wait until October 16th to move in, but we are excited.
