Fryer & Halogen Oven
« on: June 14, 2013, 04:16:34 PM »
Hello   :)

People I know have been raving about low fat/air fryers such as the Tefal ActiFry and Philips Airfryer.  Apparently it makes it easier to cook a variety of food with less mess.

I've also been hearing good reviews about halogen ovens, particularly the one by Coopers of Stortford

Are these gadgets really better than using a traditional deep fryer and fan-assisted oven??   :-\\\\

Thanks!!

I have an actifry -I got a great deal on one due to it being an older model -   I don't use it all the time, but I do use it (You can make stir fries, curries, etc in it) - and its lovely. The chips are awesome.

I can't comment about it being better than a deep fat fryer,  I've never used one of those.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I'm another Actifry owner--bought it while I was pregnant and craving chips all the time but feeling guilty about eating them. We tend to use it for making roast potatoes on a given Sunday, they're not quite the same as proper roasties but they're close enough and much lower maintenance. I prefer the way they cook oven chips to just bunging them in the oven, and making our own chips turns out okay too, if a bit floppier than the oven chips.

I also have never owned a deep fryer so I can't comment on that. Nor a halogen oven, for that matter. Someone should set up a small appliances library though because I would be interested in seeing how one of those did!

Good to hear your positive experiences with using the Tefal ActiFryer .  I'll think about it more and perhaps purchase the 1kg capacity one from Amazon.   :D
