Dual National, doing a short job in US for UK Company
« on: November 15, 2012, 02:17:20 PM »
Hi,

I am a dual UK/US national.  I currently live, work and pay tax in the UK.  I've had a request for a UK client to fly with them to a 3 day conference in the states and take some photos there.  We are both UK based, I would be invoicing them from the UK, and putting through UK accounts.

Aside from filing my standard US tax return, is there anything else I need to be aware of before accepting this job?

I'm hoping the answer is no, and that I can just travel on business briefly as the clients themselves will be doing!

Many thanks,

Richard

You have US source income so may owe US Federal or/and State income tax on income attributable to this visit. If you do you can probably claim credit for that US tax on your UK tax return.

No VAT on your invoice. :}

Might need to charge state sales tax, though.
