@KSAND24
Good Grief Charlie Brown, lighten up. I am just not sure if I should laugh or cry or what to think of a crazy comment reply as you wrote and am having to pinch myself that I just read your comment correctly!
It was actually supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek comment (hence the
emoticon at the end of my sentences)
. (I was also writing my reply on my ipod, early in the morning, while recovering from a cold, so apologies if any of the tiredness/difficulty with typing on a small device came through in my post).
I wasn't offended by what you said, I was just responding (with what you might call 'British humour') to the fact that your posts implied that you didn't seem to realise you were talking to a group of mostly Americans (with only 1 or 2 Brits in the mix)
.
If you had a shred of humor I believe you would have seen that I obviously knew she was English and from England which is why the humor was from an American putting it back on the English as far as driving on "the wrong side". Get it? What do you not understand about the Americans think the British drive on the wrong side and the British think the Americans drive on the wrong side?
Actually, I don't consider either side of the road to be the 'wrong' side - it's not 'wrong', it's just different
. (And your humour was not obvious from your post - for all I knew it was written in complete seriousness)
So no I am hardly worried there would be anyone getting offended by something I said.
My comment about people getting offended was in response to the fact that you'd just called a whole forum of US citizens 'you English' (in both this thread and your introduction post)... which might not go down too well (doesn't matter so much to me as I am English, but almost everyone else here at UK-Y is American)
Oh here we go...not everyone is Christian or Catholic therefore could get offended, because following your theory there may be other religious folk on this thread that would feel I am trying to convert them and be offended! I apologize and will re-address: HAPPY HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!!
Actually, 'we British' say Merry Christmas to everyone and religion doesn't usually come into it
.
I cannot though allow anyone to talk down on me like I am an idiot, so what else could I have said back to you?
Well, I kind of hoped you might see the humour intended by my post, but as this exchange has just proven, it's easy for things to be taken the wrong way on the internet because the tone of the words does not always translate.
I was responding with humour to what came across to me to be an uninformed post about British culture and the type of forum this is (I found it vaguely amusing that you didn't seem to realise that you were calling group of mainly Americans, not all of whom live in England, 'you English')... while you missed the tongue-in-cheek response of my post and and seemed to think I was talking down to you like you were an idiot (which I wasn't, or at least didn't intend to... as I said, for all I knew, you wrote that in all seriousness).
Regardless, I do wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year my friend. Kind Regards, Roman T
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family too. Good luck with your plans to visit and/or move to the UK in the future and I wish you all the best
