Nicotine patches?
« on: January 16, 2013, 10:28:29 PM »
I am about to fly to the UK for a 4-month stay this time.  My SO there is trying to quit smoking.  I expect that, as with many things, nicotine patches may be less expensive in the states than in the UK, so I was thinking of bringing several boxes for him.  I'm wondering if they will be allowed through customs if they're in my checked baggage and only for personal use.  Anyone know if there are restrictions or how I can find a definitive answer on this?  I've checked the UK Customs website and it only mentions specific tobacco items, not nicotine patches.

Thanks!

I stopped smoking on the 2nd of this month, and I am using the patches.

I am in London, not the USA.

My patches, which are the highest dose (they go from 21, to 14, to 7), are about 7 quid a box, for 7 days worth, at Boots.

Also, you can get them through the NHS, and they give you a months worth, for like 7.40, or whatever the regular cost of a script is.

So, I don't think they are cheaper in the USA.

Married 04/13/11, in NYC.
Applied for Spouse Visa the following week, with express service, and I was approved 4 days later!
Arrived in the UK 05/20/11.
I took the stupid LIUK Test Oct. 2012.
We were granted ILR In Person in Croydon on 04/23/13.
Got BRP 2 days later, in mail box - it just appeared.

He's been paying up to 19 quid for a box of 7 at Tesco's which is becoming a frustration.  Not exactly conducive to quiting.  I'll have to look into the NHS option.  He has said things in the past that made that option sound cost prohibitive, but maybe he was making assumptions.

The NHS thing is just a bit of a pain because you have to go in, and then they give you the patches script, but you need to go back once a month, and talk, and then get another months worth.

Tell him to go to Boots. Less than 7 quid a box!!! This is what I am using -
