Any greyhound owners?
« on: June 03, 2013, 09:10:58 PM »
After months of looking we adopted a greyhound last week.    Are there any other greyhound owners out there?

Yay you!
My adopted greyhound, Davie, sadly died on 20 June 2011, aged 14.
I'd had him since he was 2, and losing him has broken my heart so badly, I don't think i can ever get another dog.

Hope you have a lovely, happy life with your hound... they are such quiet, sweet, loyal, loving, lazy comedians!  [smiley=heart.gif]

I have a greyhound cross, and if we ever get another dog, I want a greyhound. He's so quiet, chill, and relaxed - seriously the easiest dog I've ever met.

Congrats!  We have a Westie, but my DH has owned many greyhounds and adores the breed. :)

 :D
I have to say that Poppy has won all of us over.  She is such a sweetheart!  I am keeping a muzzle on her when we go for a walk (and do the school run).  So far she has been good with other dogs and doesn't pay any attention to cats.  We have yet to meet a squirrel or a rabbit though.
The only negative so far is that when she farts it can clear a room-however, that appears to be getting better as the days go on.
I was very nervous at adopting as we have very limited experience with dogs.

The farting is pretty common if you change foods from what the rescue or shelter was using.  I used to be a shelter volunteer, and we also had the issue with some dogs shortly after intake.  Shelters feed animals whatever is donated (unless there is a medical need to do otherwise), so their bodies have to adjust to whatever they are now eating.

I've got a female cat who can make us want to flee the house on occasion, for the same reason!

We have a greyhound [she's a baby, only just turned 2], but we won't be coming to the UK until 2015. Can't wait to see how she adjusts.  Also considering adopting another one before the move. Is that mental?

Given the cost to ship them over, yes. ;) (Doesn't mean it's not worth doing, but it is something to consider.)
