Elle from Austin moving to Chester Uk
« on: February 04, 2013, 07:28:37 PM »
Hi Yall,
I'm getting ready to apply for a visa for me and my 2 daughters. I have been married to a man from Manchester UK for nearly 3 years. We got married here in the states and have been living here. We decided for several reasons to try our lives in the UK. We do have a son together and he is considered dual citizen with passports from both countries. I am trying to gather all information possible. Visa time frame, flight info (book one way cheaper?) transporting of our house info. If anyone can help provide any information that would be splendid. I am so happy to have found this website and looking forward to reading all the posts.

Hi, Elle, and welcome to the forum! It's nice to see another Austinite around! I just moved to England from Austin in November.

I do hope you are aware of the financial requirements which must be met by your husband in order to be eligible for a spouse visa in the UK. Also, I believe your husband needs to have a job offer prior to applying for the visa, with a start date of within 3 months of arrival to the UK. Or, he can move to the UK first, secure a job which meets the financial requirements (and hold it for 6 months), and then the rest of your family can follow. I'm not sure what the exact figures are, as I did not have any dependents when I applied, but this information is all on UKBA's website, which I'm sure you've seen! (:

One thing upon which I can comment with confidence is the flight info. Generally speaking, I found that round trip tickets are cheaper than one-way. However, when I came over to England, I had purchased my one-way ticket from a site called Oojo - it was nearly half the price of one-way tickets from the airlines themselves. Also, I have heard of a site called SkyAuction, though do not have personal experience with it. They offer one-way Virgin Atlantic flights from a few US cities. You bid on them, and may purchase up to 8 flights for the winning bid. Sometimes they are as low as $100.

Hope that helps a little, and best of luck to you during your visa process!

Thank you so much for this info! I knew my hubby would have to get a job quickly but wasn't aware of the time frame. I thought if we could show 3 months salary it would be sufficient. I will make sure to re-check the website to get this information correct. I know our circumstance is a bit different since we are both over here now and have been so nervous about it but the kids are really looking forward to moving. Thanks again!

Hi and welcome Elle! :)

Will you be living in Manchester? We are also planning a move to the UK and considering somewhere around Manchester.
9/11/2012 Husband mailed his US citizenship application.
9/17/2012 Received e-mail stating his application has been entered into the system.
9/22/2012 Hubby received letter with date for finger printing.
10/12/12 Hubby went for finger printing.
10/26/12 Dh got a letter stating when he should appear for his interview and test- 11/27/12- just a month away!!!
11/27/12 We went to dh's interview and test- he passed and we went back 4 hours later for the Oath Ceremony! 95 people from 38 countries, really pretty cool!
So he's now a US citizen!!
