Where can I find.....
« on: October 06, 2004, 08:09:26 AM »

Hi everyone:

I am not sure I am posting this in the right area, so moderators, please feel free to move this as you deem necessary.  I am looking for a bakers rack in the UK.  I have no problem having to have it shipped from the UK mainland as I am in Northern Ireland.  I have looked everywhere on the net and no joy.  I can find them in the states but as they are metal I am sure shipping would kill my budget.  I have a very small kitchen and have way too many kitchen toys that I am unwilling to part with and need something to store them on.  They are mostly small appliances and the like.  I cook a lot and really need  :o these items, so I can not get rid of them.

I have scoured ebay uk and the like to no avail.  Are they perhaps called something else here and that is my problem?    Any help or pointers would be most appreciated.  TIA

Rose

Have you tried Captain Cooks, Spoils or Debenham's (their kitchen section is upstairs, and all these shops are upstairs) in Castle Court? Debenham's is expensive but they have a different range of gadgets than most shops (more posh, obviously); Spoils is more like plates and mugs but worth keeping in mind, and Captain Cook's has all sorts of stuff. Also, don't overlook the Pound Stretcher when you're in need of handy little things, they may be cheap but there are a good stop gap for some things.

I'm going to pop this over into Food Talk, just because the foodies in there might know where to go! :)
I personally don't even know what a Bakers Rack is! ;)
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

Is this the type thing you're looking for?

This is from a US site...but just trying to get an idea of what you're wanting. :)

Hi everyone!

Thanks so much for the help.  Stella:  I have tried all of those shops and no luck.  Personally, I think £ stretcher is good for some things.

Melissa:  Yes, that is it exactly.  I was on the same site.

AnneG:  Unfortunately, we do not have an IKEA here in Northern Ireland.  One can only hope that some day we will.

Thanks again and the search continues!

If you are looking for smaller ones, like this one from Argos
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=2501&productId=109700&clickfrom=name

You can find them at British Home Stores upstairs in the kitchen section. I have two of them I use for spices and sauces and gadgets. They aren't expensive at all and are small enough to fit on my counter tops. You have the option of wheels, too. The main difference between the picture and what I've got is that the lip at the bottom of the shelf goes up instead of down.

I got the Christmas Lakeland catalog and I think I remember seeing racks in there.  Worth a try! :D
