Flat hunting trip worth it?

New here.  Hope you can give me some insight.
I am moving in a few weeks on a work visa and am thinking about taking a flat hunting trip.  Wondering if it is worth it.  I'll have up to 900 pounds a month for rent.
 
Would letting agencies rent to someone ahead of time or even take them seriously?
Would I realistically be able to find a flat within a week?

Flights, etc are quite expensive these days so i wouldn't want to come over for a disappointment if it would just be better to rent a room or hotel for a week or two when i move over.

If your company is paying for you to come over for a "look see" then go for it: you'll have the opportunity to look at areas and properties.

But, if you are moving to a high demand area such as London, be aware that properties go quickly. So, unless you have your visa and deposit, don't expect agents/landlords to hold property for you.

IMHO, it would be better to move into a serviced apartment or hotel for a couple of weeks while you find your feet at work, and then search for an flat. Having proof that you are employed will make your search easier.

Was going to say the same. If you're starting in a few weeks anyway, I'd just wait and maybe come out a bit early if you need to and just find somewhere reasonable to stay while you hunt.  Good luck!

For your budget, and since you'll be coming in a few weeks, I'd wait, especially if you are coming to London. In that price range, I can't imagine flats staying around long, so maybe think about doing a short term house share to get your bearings first while you look for places. This might help with getting you a landlord reference as well for when you find a flat of your own.

But yes, it is possible to get yourself a flat within a week, especially if you have easy access to funds locally.
