PEO Sheffield?
« on: December 29, 2012, 10:20:52 PM »
Has anyone had an appointment at the PEO in Sheffield?  I will be applying for my ILR in the summer and want to avoid going to Croydon if at all possible.  My husband and I will be in York for a few days in June and we were thinking of maybe linking this trip with my ILR appointment, since Sheffield is conveniently on our way back home.

Thanks!

I did my FLR(M) at the Sheffield PEO a few years ago. There was queueing, waiting, more waiting... All in all it wasn't a bad experience. You sat in a smallish waiting room and watched some TV's with numbers on (kind of like going to Argos). I think we were in and out in about 2.5 hours, although it felt like ages.

This is probably not a huge help, but I don't really know what you're after.

Thanks for your response!

So it sounds like it's quite busy from your experience?  I'm interested in hearing people's recent experiences with this PEO.  Is it better to book an early appointment, or one later in the day?  Or is it all the same?  It sounds like people going to Croydon for 8am appointments have less of a wait than others who go later - I was wondering if it's the same at Sheffield.  We will be going with a 1 year old and basically we're looking to minimize stress and waiting time, if at all possible.

Thanks again!

I would definitely recommend getting an early appointment if possible, no matter where you book. It gives them less time to fall behind! I think our appointment was around 9. I was really worried because the queue outside was *massive* and I was sure we were going to be there all day, but most of the people in the queue seemed to be reporting themselves which was a different bank of windows and didn't slow us down once we got inside.

We have a 23 month old and I wouldn't relish the thought of doing it all with him but IIRC there were a few small children in when we were there and they got along all right.

I think the time of the appointment makes a big difference.  I had an 8a appointment at Croydon (on a Monday) and we were out by 10.15 or something like that and there was no one waiting with us.  A few days ago, SealPoint had an appointment at 9.50a (also at Croydon but on a Friday) and it sounds like she had a much longer wait..... a few hours makes a big difference.  :)  You get a number at the start of the day (we were number 6) and that seemed to be the order they called us in throughout at all the difference windows.  :)

I'm not sure if a Monday appointment helped, but it can't hurt- my thoughts were a Monday appointment would likely give me caseworkers fresh off the weekend and in a better mood.  :P

I just had an FLR(M) appointment there (and approved!).

It was a Thursday and appointment at 11:00, so arrived at 10:30. It was packed! Standing room only - we were number 37. Lots of families with young children. If you are not a fan of being in a small-ish waiting area with screaming and crying children, then be forewarned - get a good nights sleep and bring a suitcase full of patience.

All said and done, we were out at almost 3:30pm - about 5 hours!! They had one question for us (we needed to clarify we were under the old rules - which they then confirmed) and told us it would be about 45 minutes. We asked if we could leave for some air and food and they allowed us to do so - just had to report back to reception when returning.

All the employees we spoke with said they were having a very busy day - maybe this wasn't the norm and your mileage may vary. Incidentally, all the employees there were super-friendly, courteous and simply genuine. Even the security people were friendly and nice - a far cry from the attitudes where I had my biometrics done in the states.

As previously suggested here, I would also recommend getting an appointment as early as possible.
