Power Garden Tools

Unlike many of my neighbors here in Georgia, all of our garden tools are either manual or electric [not gas], and we were wondering if anyone has any experience with bringing over electric leaf blowers, weed whackers, or hedge trimmers?  We are already planning on having a high quality transformer in our kitchen as I am a baker and I have nice and expensive to replace kitchen gadgets, so plugging them in won't be a problem.

Any experiences to share? I'd love to live in a flat or house with no garden, but with small kids and and a Greyhound, I doubt the reality of that dream for the immediate future
