Hi horsey friends,

I am looking to find a barn near where I live in Eastbourne that I can start to take some riding lessons at. I am not new to riding, have been doing it for 30 years. But I don't want to get involved in horse ownership or leasing just yet. Would like a barn that has either dressage schoolmasters or event horses with a lot of mileage as I do need to rebuild my confidence after a couple of nasty accidents.

Hopefully someone can help?

Do you drive, or is public transport an issue?

Try asking our member equestrianerd. I'm not sure where she is, but she's definitely horsey!  :)

Yes I am driving so that is good. Have chatted with a couple of people here about horses before, hoping they will see this post. :)

I'm horsey, but up in Manchester, so not that helpful.  One of the best resources was my local BHS committee. I actually just emailed the chair for my area and asked about places to ride and she sent me a list! It did take me a while to settle somewhere (and, ahem, I bought a horse ;) ), but it was a good start.

You might also have a look around the Horse and Hound forums as they can have some good info.

Come join our Sussex Horse Community on Facebook! It's the best source of local information I've found by far. :)

Unfortunately the only barns I know are in London, but I second the recommendation to research BHS and H&H. You could also look on yardandgroom.com to see what barns are in the area - that led me to this swanky place near(?) you, and while that doesn't fit what you're looking for, they may know who else does. You know the horse world, everyone knows everyone else!

Thanks all. :) Will look for that FB group. If anyone is in need of some basic tack, let me know as I am selling some now. :) All new and unused.
