I have tried Scottish Haggis. and I didn't like it.  But maybe it might be good in mexican food! What a twist!!

Where are you guys getting corn tortillas from? The type I have found here are so far and away from a real corn tortilla that I'm starting to think that the constant rain is actually the tears of the Baby Jesus, weeping for our lack of a greasy shredded beef taco.

I bring over whatever I can cram into my suitcase, which includes but it not limited to: corn tortillas, packets of lard-laden refried beans, taco seasoning, Hidden Valley Ranch packets (not Mexican, but have you ever put Ranch on a chicken taco? Amazeballs), and cans of chili verde.

I'm from SoCal, so I long for good Mexican. Alas...

Okay, this provided me a good laugh for today! I'm afraid if you want real tortillas your options are limited.  I agree the store bought corn ones here are NASTY! They have white flour in them--just wrong! I solved the problem by having my dad bring me a tortilla press and some harina from Texas. You can buy them online too. I also saw some tortillas you can order online too. I think they may have been from one of the links that were already listed in the thread.

See, now I'm really craving a good carne asada burrito.  May have to make some tortillas again tonight . . .

I actually really liked the Old El Paso ones, that were a mixture of corn & flour.  I used them for quesadillas, mainly, but haven't seen them in the shops for many years.  Are you guys still seeing them locally?

For proper corn tortillas, though, I have used http://www.mexgrocer.co.uk/ and http://lupepintos.com/

I used to be a bit hard on Old El Paso....but after a while Old El Paso starts tasting better and better.

They have a sort of PlayDoh flavor to them. Whatever it is, it's freaking wrong. I have made flour tortillas successfully, which make good flautas.

Luckily my husband travels to California regularly!

I don't like or use any of the other Old El Paso products, but i thought those corn/flour mix tortillas were good!  I'd buy them again if i could find them, but as i mentioned, i've not seen them for at least 5 years.

See you all put a bee in my bonnet. I made carne asada burritos last night with homemade pico de gallo, guacamole, refried beans, Mexican rice, etc. Ooh, it was good! We had dinner guests, and they left groaning after over-stuffing themselves from eating far more than usual. :-) I'm a happy girl now.
