Post Office For Money Transfer To US Bank Acct?
« on: June 21, 2013, 11:54:19 PM »
Has anyone used the Post Office's online international payments to send money to their US bank account?  I usually use Paypal, but stumbled upon this when I was at the Post Office recently, so I decided to check it out online.  Seems to give an okay quote, nothing as low as I would expect for a money transfer service that technically has no fee (I say technically because I know services like that usually make up for it on the exchange rate they offer).

So...enquiring minds want to know!   ;)

Thanks!  ;D

Hi KBee,

I've not used the Post Office service, however that's because the simplicity of using PayPal to transfer money for free is so good. Perhaps the exchange rate itself isn't as good as the post office, but I'm hazarding a guess that the fee's even if just a few pounds would then make the actual amount received/transferred pretty much the same or, still making the PayPal route better. Will keep a lookout for the Post Office route and evaluate soon!

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!

Have either of you had any trouble logging into your US PayPal accts while in England?  For some sites, logging into US stuff outside the country can trigger fraud alerts.

A US merchant might pay my US PP acct, then I'd want to transfer the money to my US checking acct.  I'd do all of this while logged in from England.  Do you think that'd  trigger a fraud alert for US PP?  Not that I couldn't call them if it did, but just trying to keep things simple.

When I compared:
Paypal
Bank transfer (HSBC UK to HSBC US only £5 fee)
Xe.com

Paypal exchange was terrible.
Bank to bank was much better than paypal
XE.com was the best rate and is very simple once it is set up

I do this all the time.  I sub contract remotely for a man in the US who pays  via paypal.  I then transfer the money to my US bank.  I have been doing this for a few years and usually transfer money at least once a month.  I have had no issues at all.
