Moving to Bristol Next Month
« on: May 14, 2013, 10:20:22 PM »
DW and I are moving to Bristol at the end of June.  I'm just finishing my doctorate and have a research appointment at U. Bristol starting in July.  I had been following a more general expat bulletin board, but was glad to find this one.

We're both really excited about our move.  We're a bit curious to see what kind of accommodations we can find, but from perusing the online real estate sites it looks as if we can find a place to let within our budget without much trouble.  It helps that we just sold our house in the U.S. with some equity and we're getting rid of all our nonessential stuff ("essential" means iPods, laptops, clothes, hiking gear and bicycles).

The big plan is to use my vacation time (time off?? -- novel concept for a recent Ph.D. candidate) to travel like crazy.  Oh, and being in a major city, we don't plan to own a car but rely on mass transit, biking or walking.  Coming from the U.S., that will be a first for us, but it sure sounds feasible.

Anyway -- howdy, folks!

You should like Bristol and if you live near the University being carless is not really an issue (though it is a surprisingly hilly area so you will get fit pretty quick).
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC
