Going back to the UK to visit in August?
« on: February 19, 2013, 08:51:17 PM »
Hey everyone! As you all know, I went to the UK from Dec. 11th-Jan 14th to spend the holidays with my husband and in laws. I already have another trip back to the UK from August 23rd to October 1st. The ticket is already bought, and I already requested those dates off of work. I will be traveling from JFK to Heathrow, and staying in London. The first time around, I did bring my return ticket, a letter from my employer, and a print out of my bank account to prove that I have enough money to support myself in the UK, however, they only asked for the letter and I was good to go!

I was wondering, that since I am going to for for about another month, would I have to bring even more proof of my ties to the US, or does the letter, bank statement, and return ticket sound good enough? I know I heard of a certain rule where you have to spend at least a good amount of time out of the UK before traveling back. Does it look too suspicious of me going back for about a month? All advice on this matter will be appreciated.

A little more info: I will be staying at my husband's house, once again. I know that we are going to be visiting attractions and museums throughout London, as well as maybe a bit of camping with my in laws. We cannot plan to close the distance, or plan to apply for a visa until my husband gets a stable job (he is still on Job Seekers Allowance.)

letter, bank statement, and return ticket

Sounds good, to be honest, I never traveled with anything more than my itinerary and never had a problem, I have traveled from NYC to LHR many times, once having gone over for five weeks, that was the longest visit and 2 weeks in December then another 2 weeks right after in January, that was the closest back to back visit....
I would just get questioned asking who I was visiting, first it was, boyfriend, then it was fiance then it was husband; where did you meet, how long have we known each other, what do you do for a living, how long do I intend to stay in the UK, what will we/I be doing while staying in the UK; visiting the sights, doing the tourist thing, shopping, seeing friends.....I always made it very clear by volunteering that I was returning to the US, that we are doing the back and forth thing until my son graduates high school and gets into college..... that I am definitely going home to my child and house and dog and cat and car and job when this visit is over!

But it is much better to have all the documents and not need them then need them and not have them! ;D

Thanks Steph for the advice. It is true to have the documents and find out that I don't need them, rather than not bringing them and the IOs asking for it. :P

Update: Ok, now I might have a situation where I will possibly be transferred to work for another store after I come back from My trip. I have not asked my Employer to write a letter yet. When I do ask my current employer to write the letter, should she mention of my transfer to the other store when I come back to the United States.

A little background on the transfer: my family and I will be moving to PA around the summer time (most likely around August) due to my father having to go to another company. I told my GM about this, and she said that there will be no problem transferring me to the store up in PA, however, what concerns me is that my family might be up in PA while I am visiting my husband in England.

I am wondering what I should do in this situation. Should I wait until June/July to ask my employer to write the letter (or even August) or should I just get it out of the way now. Also, if it should get written now, what new information should the letter contain? Should it contain the contact number of the store that I am transferring to or of the store that I am currently working with. Thank you!

For visa applications, they usually want a recent document (dated within the last 30 days).  I imagine it'd be the same in your situation since you're kind of applying for a visitor visa at the border.  :)
