Pacific Northwest (WA) to Oxford if all goes well!
« on: May 18, 2013, 09:34:32 PM »
Hello All!

I just wanted to say hello from Washington State.  I'm looking to join you all after I can figure out my visa situation with my fiance!  I love many things but some of my top favorites are nature, hiking, museums, theatre, music, dance and dancing, traveling and have started knitting and cooking.

I just learned of this group and hope to sort out my visa application so that I can join you in a few months!  I'd love to meet in person and have an American Thanksgiving this year!

I hope you all are enjoying a sunny weekend!  The reports from Oxford sounded good!

Take care!
Laura  :)

Good luck with your visa. I don't envy you and have heard awful things about that visa but good luck and hopefully we'll see you here in lovely Oxford. It's actually a very nice place to live (well most areas anyway) and while I don't know many Americans in the area I can say that I've run into several through work, etc. The accent just gives us away!

Welcome to UK Yankee, Laura!  :)  I'm from the "other" Washington -- Washington, D.C.

I see you've posted in the Visas & Citizenship section and gotten useful information.  Hope all goes smoothly with your planning.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I'm also in WA- where in WA are you living currently? I'm on Whidbey.

We don't really know where in England we will be moving yet but I just wanted to say hi from a fellow Pacific Northwesterner and wish you luck with your visa.
9/11/2012 Husband mailed his US citizenship application.
9/17/2012 Received e-mail stating his application has been entered into the system.
9/22/2012 Hubby received letter with date for finger printing.
10/12/12 Hubby went for finger printing.
10/26/12 Dh got a letter stating when he should appear for his interview and test- 11/27/12- just a month away!!!
11/27/12 We went to dh's interview and test- he passed and we went back 4 hours later for the Oath Ceremony! 95 people from 38 countries, really pretty cool!
So he's now a US citizen!!

Hello Beccarose, EloiseMX and Jackzulkaslk!

I've been a bit overwhelmed with planning a wedding and visiting friends in Bellingham, WA.  It has been so nice to be home!

Thank you for all your well wishes about the visa!  I'm a bit nervous and hope that all will go well.  It looks like the EEA family permit is actually the only visa that will work in our situation from the amazing advice offered on the forum.

I'd love to meet you Beccarose... Maybe in a few weeks we could plan to meet somewhere... I love Whidbey area.  I think I'll be heading to Deception pass when my fiance comes to visit.

Most of my family lives in/near Washington D.C., so I'm quite familiar with that Washington as well, EloiseMX.  Where are you living now?

Jackzulukaslk, I'd love to meet another American in Oxford!  I actually haven't met that many living there.  I've heard they exist.  Hopefully I'll be there by September!

Thanks again for your greetings!

I live in Liverpool.  Once you're settled in, do put Liverpool on your list of places to visit in the UK; we've got museums and theater, plus we're within easy traveling distance of some lovely places for walking.

Good luck with your wedding planning, visa prep, and moving prep; it can be overwhelming, but taking it piece by piece, and remembering to take deep breaths as appropriate, will help.  :)
