Food Obsession!
« on: March 24, 2013, 03:45:12 PM »
My food obsession has always been all things PUMPKIN. Pumpkin bread, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin pie, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin pudding...anything and everything pumpkin(I'm actually debating right now if I should have a pumpkin flavored wedding cake for my autumn wedding...).
So my heart broke when I heard the news that my boyfriend had never eaten anything pumpkin...nor had his family. So I began to wonder...can I even FIND canned pumpkin in the UK??? We went to a local American Candy shop when I was visiting him a few weeks ago...and I thought I'd just take a peek...to see if there was any possible way that they could have a single can of pumpkin on the shelf...and lo and behold, there they were!!! Cans of pumpkin AND pumpkin pie filling(I even saw my beloved pumpkin pie poptarts!)  ;D
I am overjoyed that I can continue making my delicious pumpkin creations(whether my boyfriends likes them or not ;) )

Canned pumpkin is available at Waitrose.  It's not hugely common in the UK, but not unknown either.  I make pumpkin pie for my colleagues every Thanksgiving, and it always goes down a storm.  Don't worry too much about it :).

If you live near a Whole Foods in the UK, they usually carry it.  :)  In London, I've gotten it there and Waitrose (although I always have to hunt for it in Waitrose since I can never remember which aisle it's in  ::) ).

Failing those two places, House of Fraser sometimes carries it, but Waitrose is your best bet UK wide. Mine is a smallish one and it carries it year round.

I have had a similar experience.  ;)  From what I've gathered, though, at Waitrose it is usually shelved with canned fruit.

I make an amazing pumpkin baked zitti with sage breadcrumbs several times each fall. It's AWESOME. You should expand into savory pumpkin things. ;)

Tesco has tins of Libby's pumpkin for £2 each, sometimes they are 2 for £3.
