Chest and upper back pain?
« on: October 12, 2004, 04:41:56 PM »
I didn't have this when I was pregnant with Dagmar, but the last few days I have been having the most awful pain in my upper back and chest.  Sharp pain, it comes and goes.  I know some people have pain when the baby's feet knock into their ribs and stuff, could this be it?  Did anyone else have this kind of pain when they were pregnant?

It's probably not this at all but gall stones can cause pain in your chest and even upper back. Is it to one side at all or just in the middle?

It's been so long since I was pregnant I don't remember all the aches and pains too clearly. I do remember my oldest loved having his feet in my ribcage...all. the. time. ::) I understood why though when he was born and was just under 23 inches long. It was kinda cramped in there for him. ;) hehe

It's not acid reflux is it?  Heartburn and throwing up-constant gagging?

To be honest and not wanting to freak you out, I'd go to the doctor with this one.  Sooner rather than later.

Sounds like gall stones.  Do the pains feel like intense cramps?

And another possible diagnosis!!!... esophogeal spasms. Does it hurt when you swallow or does the pain feel like it does when you have swallowed and the food hasn't gone down right? A really hard ache in the middle of your back? It can come and go... I get these every now and then from major stress. I've posted about it before and will find the link if you're interested.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I never had anything like that - other than severe heartburn - but that was fixed with some rennie tablets and it doesn't sound like that's what is going on. No advice here, other than to call your Dr - that's what they are there for - let us know!!! ((hug))

Well I took a Tums and it went away...so embarrassingly it may have just been gas.  :-[

I will ask the doc if it happens again tho.  Thanks!

Gall stones cause that pain description -- stabbing pains through your chest to your back.  (might be more "upper" since baby is in residence)

best to ask your doc next time you're there.   ;)
