From California to Derby!
« on: July 12, 2013, 05:51:59 PM »
Yo everyone! Name is Lance, I'm a 20 year old dude who met his gal online, and has been dating for around 4 years now, since we were both 16 pretty much. And recently last year, we met in real life for the first time, to test the waters and see if we could click in reality as well. And thankfully we did, so much. So since I've arrived in the US again after my visit Visa was finished, we've been working on our fiance visa application!

And after months of testimonial gathering, online evidence that dates back to when we first met (She's saved our MSN logs, Skype logs, nearly everything, so yay for being prepared!) As of today, the application has been completed and submitted! I've got biometrics on Tuesday of next week, and we'll be paying for the Settlement priority and everything. So hopefully, I'll be on my way to the lady I love very soon.

I found this site and thought it would be wonderful to join, as I haven't really had much support from outside sources, and to find a community like this is very pleasant, since having various people in the same situation is better than being alone. And it'll be a nice memory and hopefully my timeline can give some people hope like the ones I've seen on here have!

Thank you for having me C:

OUO just thought I would say hi too ;u;/ I'm Lance's English half <3

I think this is a really helpful forum that will definitely come in handy given it has so much useful information that we haven't really thought about yet but no doubt will have questions about later *U*!!

Well congratulations you two!
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Just to clarify -- did you get married when you were in the UK visiting? If so, you might run into trouble if you were on a straight visitor visa. Be sure to make clear in a cover letter to the spousal application that it wasn't your intent when you arrived (intent is key and, even then, it's not a guarantee).

If not, then you need to apply for a fiance rather than spousal visa, and have evidence of preparation for the marriage (generally, provisional appointment with a registry office, information about your engagement, etc.) to go along with pictures and other evidence of your ongoing relationship. Just want to make sure you're applying for the right visa, given the expense and stress of the process.

Nope, was a straight up visitor when I was there, we pretty much figured complications would arise if we married while I was these under such a visa, asked around, got confirmation that would be the case. And it is a fiance one, my bad, I was really excited in the moment to be having all of this done and I guess seeing the words "Spousal" visa on here got me mixed up lol! Silly me~

And yup, we've got all of that, I ran around my city here in the states gathering all the info I could, while she was doing the same. So we've got receipts for various things, including our engagement rings, wedding gift list, suit sizes and possible choices from certain outlets. We even made a blog dedicated to the subject, not sure they'll take a look at that, but we got every possible bit of information we could think of and that people suggested thankfully xD;

Thank you for the concern!

No worries. It's just that you said spousal and not fiance, so I didn't want you to be applying for the wrong one.

Nope, he said fiance visa. You made Spousal up in your head ;)  I was so confused about all of this until I looked back and checked.

Congratulations, y'all!  It's very exciting planning a wedding! Good luck with your visas and your move.

He said spousal originally, then edited his post.  Look at the quote in hms_seahorse's post, and the time of edit of the OP.  Preferably before you accuse people of making stuff up ;).

Les yeux dans les mêmes reflets,
Pour cette vie et celle d'après
Tu seras mon unique projet.

Je t'aimais, je t'aime, et je t'aimerai.

Whew -- I knew I wasn't losing it! (Well. Not in terms of my reading comprehension, anyhow.)

Whoops! My bad. It's still confusing, though. Having read the original post, I often skim the quotes because the words are still fresh In my head. So I wouldn't have seen the difference.

Hey Guys, Many Congrats. This is a great moment in your life :) I also met my X partner online and came over from Miami to Sheffield. One thing id def say is do your research of the area (Derby?) make sure you are both happy there. Coming from Miami I had NO idea what Sheffield would be like (I was in my late teens). Luckily Love made it all good BUT it also blinded my path for my career and future life away from family/friends etc. After a few years in Sheffield we moved to London and have been here since. I think sometimes, wether or not you are coming from the US or going to US from the UK, we have different ideas of what living in US or UK is all about. Once real life settles in you start missing life back home (vice versa) Coming from California you may find the Midlands a bit more remote than what you are used to (I did anyway). It isnt the easiest to just jump on a train to London etc. I do have to say we made great friends and I did have some happy years there but eventually I did yearn that exciting, cosmopolitan life that a city offers (hence London). Def have a plan and decide that if after 1 - 2 years or so the other half isn't loving it that the other will also agree to try the other persons country, only fair?

Anyway, don't mean to dampen the exciting news but its more of a tip as real love does conquer all ;) Good Luck!
